If you are a religious reader of my blog, you have read the infamous words of Dr. William “The Crusader” Dement a few times or two; “Drowsiness [driving] is red alert!” I now own a mini-squirt gun and numerous pins engraved with this harbinger-esque motto of survival.
In addition to drowsy driving, which is equivocally as dangerous as drunk driving, it appears that a case study has documented drowsy judging. Of course, we all know that sleepiness and associated sleep deprivation exacerbates poor/risky decision making. I wonder how many of these sleepy judges have wrongfully convicted innocent “perpetrators”? Perhaps the Innocence Project should follow suit….
As a side note, The New Yorker published a fantastic “Reporter At Large” documentary on a blue-collar Texan wrongfully accused and executed for an alleged arson that killed his three children.
